I used to think that
you'd be around forever
like the knick knacks from grandma
that seem to be the only things here
that don't break
or the stained coffee table
we can't seem to get rid of
because the old wood feels like home
I thought you'd be around forever
until our friendship dissolved in
the rain of life
and you broke away like
a too-sensitive light bulb
that's been around forever

Yes, this is a lovely write. I like your use of images - the knick knacks and old coffee table whose "wood feels like home" lend a sense of nostalgia, and it's clear the friendship had been a long one...

It pretty much describes my relationship with my last 'best friend'. Who can explain the way the world goes around? They say they'll be there for us, we say we'll be there for them, but it wasn't a promise.

I love your writing. <3

Laura, I know the feeling! You expressed it so well. I had one of that kind of friendship too. Hurtful to have 'friend forever' walk out of one's life.

Indeed a very moving piece, simple yet refined with emotions so strong

This really resonated deep with me, as it brought back all those feelings of holding onto "things" after my grandma passes. Things we couldnt throw away because it meant giving her up. Weird how we attach to items. Love your softness, your voice is so true. Nice pen.

Nothing like the loss of a friend you thought would always be there. That happened to me too, and I couldnt believe it. You have captured this experience so well. Love the old coffee table, the nicknacks.......

When the tender light bulbs of relationship fade, the darkness is felt :) Very nicely written!

Your writing is really warm, I wish all friendships would last till the end and never dissolve.
