Faith

I saw a child kneel in belief
Trusting in Him who lives on high
Her face devoid of any doubt
Expected Him to bring relief

Oh, that I had a faith as pure
So that I might my burdens lay
Down at His feet with gratitude
And thus my peace from Him secure!

The Sunday Mini-Challenge at the Garden this week is an envelope quatrain written in iambic tetrameter. This is the first time I have ever written a poem with meter, so it was quite a challenge! I hope I did it correctly. The rhyme scheme I chose for my envelope quatrain is axxa. To join in or to read the other contributions go here.
Special thanks to Ella for the use of her photograph!

I think this is a stunning response to the picture and the challenge as a whole. The stanzas read like classic poetry, and your message is gently conveyed by your word choice. I really enjoyed the read.

You have written the form perfectly ... I love trying out new poetic firms, and I guess I should try this one too ... thanks for sharing this :-)

I am envious and respectful of people who have faith - but have not pathway to finding my own.

Beautiful! Oh for such a wonderful childlike faith as this.

Glad to see you in 'the pantry' again!

Competent and convincing, as we are beginning to expect from you.
The rhymeless centre reads well too. A soft centre maybe :-)

there's a touch of Blake and his songs of innocence about this. and i also share your conundrum. innocence and faith are things that adult experience generally extinguishes.

Laura Maria,

I sincerely enjoyed your poem, for the religious quality in itself. I appreciate your forms of words so much...

Gorgeous. Simple. Faith-filled. Lyrical.

WOW, if that is your first attempt at meter, you have been wildly successful! This reads so beautifully and made me wish for that same kind of faith, too.

I love this, Laura...there's serenity, purity and hope in every line that makes this little one's faith so sincere. Lovely...
